Summary Reports by Project
The Toddler Development Instrument (TDI) is a questionnaire completed by parents or caregivers of children aged 12-24 months that asks about the early experiences and environments of children and their families. It can be completed either online or on paper and takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Typically, information about the TDI is distributed within a range of early years services and programs including immunization clinics, Strong Starts, drop-in play groups and child care centres.
The TDI is in Pilot phase. No Reports or maps are publicly available.

CHEQ Reports at the school district and related neighbourhood level are only available for those districts that participated in CHEQ data collection in the 2022-2023 school year. Some reports in participating school districts may be suppressed.
Suppression occurs when coverage of the population is low or the population size of an area is very small. More specifically, data are suppressed when there are fewer than 35 children in a school district or neighbourhood for confidentiality reasons. The data are also suppressed when the uncertainty of the results (i.e., margin of error) is greater than 10%, which can result from low coverage particularly in areas with small populations.
HELP is pleased to release EDI Wave 8 data, collected between 2019-2022 – marking 20 years of EDI data collection across BC school districts. The EDI Wave 8 data release includes the EDI Provincial Summary and the launch of the EDI Data Dashboard. The EDI Provincial Summary provides a foundational summary of EDI data at the provincial and school district level from Wave 2 (collected 2004-2007) to Wave 8 and helpful contextual information. The EDI Data Dashboard is an online, interactive tool for exploring patterns and trends in EDI data across all waves and several geographic boundaries, including the community and neighbourhood level along with other BC ministry boundaries. The Dashboard replaces the EDI Community Profile reports released previously, however, the EDI Wave 7 (2016-2019) Community Profiles are still available below for reference.

MDI Reports are available for participating school districts from the 2019/20 school year onwards at the project (all participating districts) and school district level below. The 2022/23 MDI School District Reports no longer include neighbourhood profiles as these data are available through the MDI Data Dashboard. The MDI 2022-2023 Summary Report is coming soon! If you require reports from earlier years please contact mdi@help.ubc.ca.

The YDI is an online, self-reported questionnaire that collects population-level youth development data, which may be broadly used to better understand the developmental trends, health, and well-being of adolescents in British Columbia (BC). The YDI is administered annually in schools across BC. Since piloting in 2020, the CHART Lab has worked to expand capacity to include more school districts; cumulatively, over 26,000 youth in BC have participated in the YDI to date.
Learn more about the YDI project implemented by Dr. Hasina Samji and the team at Simon Fraser University’s, as well as reports and resources, by visiting Capturing Health and Resiliency Trajectories (CHART) Lab.
