This webinar presented by HELP will feature a presentation by Dr. Kimberly Schonert-Reichl, NoVo Foundation Endowed Chair in Social and Emotional Learning at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Dr. Molly Lawlor, Principal Scientific Advisor for MindUP. This event will be moderated by Maureen Dockendorf, Strategic Consultant at the BC Ministry of Education and Childcare.

Drs. Schonert-Reichl and Lawlor’s presentation, The state of social and emotional learning: What do we know? Where do we go from here? will offer an overview of the field of social and emotional learning (SEL), examine the latest innovations in the SEL field, present new pioneering research on the effects of classroom-based SEL programming on student outcomes and review recent advances in SEL practice. Drs. Schonert-Reichl and Lawlor will also discuss the connection between SEL and mental health, impacts of COVID-19 on children’s social and emotional development, and future directions for SEL research. A moderated discussion will follow with a specific focus on SEL in British Columbia.
