The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) is thrilled to announce that the research centre is among the recipients of the 2023 Strategic Investment Fund from UBC’s Faculty of Medicine.

The award will fund the project, Actualizing Indigenous Data Sovereignty Principles, will be led by Dr. Mariana Brussoni, HELP’s Director, and Kinwa Bluesky, Senior Manager of Indigenous Initiatives.

The project aims to bring equity to HELP’s data and knowledge sharing processes, fostering research and evidence-based decision-making to enhance the health and well-being of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis children, with a core focus on developing a robust data platform and data access framework that respect Indigenous data sovereignty.

“We’ve been working diligently with the Aboriginal Steering Committee at HELP to deepen our commitment to reporting equity while taking real steps to strengthen Indigenous data governance,” says Bluesky, adding, “there is still so much more to do! We needed this catalyst funding to propel us forward with those strategic priorities.”
