Event Description
Join Dr. Eva Oberle, scientific lead for the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI), for a webinar about the latest MDI data collected this school year (2023-24) from children in grades 4 through 8 across BC. Hear about children’s well-being over the last 5 years and other topics of interest including sleep, screen time and social media use, active transportation habits, and more. This webinar will also review updates planned for the MDI Data Dashboard — an online tool providing access to MDI data maps and trends over the last 6 years at the school district and neighbourhood levels.

Lianne Carley, Senior Policy Lead with Vancouver Coastal Health, will also provide a brief overview of newly released BC Healthy Communities Child & Youth Mental Well-Being Resources — data-informed guides for local governments to support children and youth in their communities.

About the MDI Data and MDI Data Trends
MDI data represent one of the most comprehensive population-based datasets about children in the middle years and early adolescence over time in Canada, providing information from the perspectives of children on their social and emotional competence, mental and physical health, and well-being, as well the assets in their lives, including connectedness to adults and peers, nutrition and sleep, and use of out of school time.

MDI data supports strengths-based research into the differences that make a difference in the middle years. There’s so much we can learn if we continue listening to children’s voices. Thank you for joining us!
