Aingai. Hello. Marilyn Maychak (she/her) is an Inuk Polish-Ukrainian woman. She was born and raised in Treaty 6 territory – in Vegreville and St. Alberta, Alberta. Marilyn’s anaana (mother) is Inuk from Kinngait, Nunavut;and her father is Polish-Ukrainian who immigrated to Canada from Poland. Marilyn is a mother of one. She is deeply humbled and grateful to reside, raise her family and conduct business on the traditional, unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw.

Over the past 20 years, Marilyn’s work, vision and purpose has woven together the threads of: being an advocate for Inuit, intercultural navigator, bridge builder, listener, community connector, leadership coach, facilitator, educator, educational consultant and advisor. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta, along with a Bachelor of Education from Concordia University of Edmonton, and a Master of Education in Leadership and School Improvement from the University of Alberta.

Marilyn has joined the ASC with the hope of continuing to collectivize and mobilize knowledge and research in support of HELP’s vision of all children thriving in healthy societies. A collective vision of all children, families and communities thriving and flourishing.

Marilyn believes we can create systems and spaces that tell a deep and vibrant story of intercultural understanding where people feel they belong, know that they matter, and are guided by shared cultural values based on mutual respect and empathy.
