The Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) is inviting schools to register for the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) project for the 2023-24 school year.
The MDI provides critical information from children themselves about their social and emotional competence, mental and physical health, and well-being, as well the assets in their lives such as connectedness to adults and peers, nutrition and sleep, and use of time after school. The data gathered from the MDI is essential to educators, district administrators, community leaders and families and others working collectively to support our children to navigate the challenges and complexity of this unique time.
Choose Your Grades!
The MDI is available to administer to students in Grades 4 to 8 inclusive, allowing your district to choose which grades in which to collect MDI data and to track students’ well-being and assets across middle childhood and early adolescence.
Coming Soon — MDI Data Dashboard
In addition to annual school and school district reports, the MDI community and school district data will soon be available via the MDI Data Dashboard, which will allow you to view data trends over time, and compare MDI data with other HELP tools, such as the EDI. Your MDI Guide
The MDI …
…is a self-reported online survey for children and young adolescents in Grades 4 to 8.
… collects data on the “whole child,” including social and emotional development, health, and well-being inside and outside of school.
… is scientifically valid and reliable
… is a population level survey, not an individual assessment
… provides information that is “actionable” to support the well-being of children at school, at home, and in the community
… is considered “the most comprehensive child well-being indicator on a global level”
