Drs. Schonert-Reichl, Whitehead, and Baelen’s presentation, Implementing a Mindfulness-Based Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Program with Early Adolescents During COVID: Lessons from the Field, will provide an overview of the connection between SEL and mindfulness and offer a unique view into the implementation of a mindfulness-based SEL program — MindUP for Middle School Students — with early adolescents during COVID. New research findings on the MindUP program will be explored with a particular focus on implementation, including research findings on teachers’ and students’ experiences. The presenters will also discuss the lessons learned from the research and offer several suggestions for the school-based promotion of SEL and the promotion of both students’ and teachers’ well-being and mental health. A moderated discussion will follow with a specific focus on SEL programming and the promotion of student and teacher mental health in British Columbia.
This event is the second instalment of a two-part series. A recording of the first webinar that took place on January 12 is available for viewing here.
