Kris Salikin has mixed heritage that includes Italian, English, Irish, British and Indigenous ancestry from the Nlaka’pamux First Nation in the Nicola Valley. Kris is currently the Executive Director and Aboriginal Family Services Program Co-coordinator with the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society in the West Kootenay and Boundary region. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work specializing in Indigenous Studies from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Social Work specializing in Leadership from the University of Calgary.
Kris has 16 years’ experience providing support and counseling to children, youth and families; and 11 years’ experience working in Indigenous program/community development. Kris has a deep passion for supporting the reclamation of positive cultural identity of Indigenous children, youth and families who have been disconnected from their cultures, traditions and communities.
Kris has strong beliefs in Medicine Wheel teachings and creating balance in all aspects of life. For self-care in the spring, summer and fall, she spends significant amounts of time connecting with Mother Earth camping with her family by the local rivers and lakes.
